connecting city heights youth to nature +

career opportunities through preserving san Diego’s canyons

The Canyon Connections Internship Program supports a two-year youth paid internship for 24 Hoover High School students, building social equity in environmental careers through place-based, student-led projects, education, and mentorship in urban canyons in San Diego.

Interns will study with Canyonlands Outreach & Restoration teams to discover the biodiversity of their local canyon ecosystems, engage in hands-on environmental restoration work, and design and install a total of eight native plant trailhead gardens in the canyons for the City Heights community.

Congratulations to students from the 2023-2024 Canyon Connections Internship!
