VOLUNTEER

The Earth is what we all have in common.
— wendell berry

When you volunteer at San Diego Canyonlands, you are making a positive impact on the nature spaces and local communities in our city. Volunteering your time to a local nonprofit and your nature space is rewarding all on its own and we could not thank you enough. Here at San Diego Canyonlands, we could not do all the amazing work we do without the help from our wonderful volunteers. Consider joining us at one of our weekly Saturday events, joining our team as an intern, or booking a private event for your staff, classroom, or group.

1.  Volunteer Events

We host volunteer events in the canyons every Saturday morning that are open to the public. We also support Friends Groups and City of San Diego volunteer events that take place all across the county. To find an event and sign-up, please visit our Events Calendar.  Events generally involve invasive weed removal, trash cleanup, and native plant restoration efforts. Be sure to wear comfy clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, closed shoes, and a positive get-it-done attitude! Students and others can earn community service hours or credits at these events and we can provide documentation. Confirmation forms verifying your community service are available upon request.  Please bring any school-specific or other forms to the event

For groups with over 10 volunteers, please contact us so we can match you with the right event. We love facilitating events for corporate groups, youth organizations, military groups, service trips and everything in between. Please email kindra@sdcanyonlands.org to set up your event.

Volunteers Under 18: Minors must have a waiver signed by a parent/guardian and bring it with them to the event. This waiver can be found here: Youth Waiver

3.   Internships

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are unfortunately not taking new interns until further notice. Thank you for understanding.

If you are getting even more involved with our organization and volunteering with us on a routine basis, an internship may be a good fit for you. Interns form an integral part of our programs.  We offer internships where students gain applied work experience in:

  • Habitat Restoration and Stewardship Internship
