 VOLUNTEER

Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?
— Martin Luther King, Jr.

The work we do would not be possible without our wonderful volunteers. Whether you are interested in joining us once for a Saturday event, starting a Friends Group, or working with us behind the scenes, we would love your help! See below for some ways you can support our work.

1.  Volunteer Events

To find an event and sign-up, visit our Events Calendar.  These events are open to the public and you can sign up yourself or a group (for groups over 10 see below). Events generally involve invasive weed removal, trash/debris cleanup, and native plant restoration efforts. Students and others can earn community service hours or credits at these events and we can provide documentation. Learn more by visiting our Community Service page.

Group Events: For groups with over 10 volunteers, please contact us so we can match you with the right event. We love facilitating events for corporate groups, youth organizations, military groups, service trips and everything in between. Please email kindra@sdcanyonlands.org to set up your event.

Volunteers Under 18: Minors must have a waiver signed by a parent/guardian and bring it with them to the event. This waiver can be found here: Youth Waiver

2.  Other Volunteer Opportunities

You don't just have to get your hands dirty in a canyon to help out!  We can always use volunteer assistance for such work as:

  • Truck/Hauling Services (make pick-ups and runs to landfill)

  • Landscape Professionals: Restoration Planning Skills, certified herbicide sprayers, Chain Saw certification, Chipper

  • Event Write-ups for Newsletter

  • Flyer Distribution & Other Outreach

  • Administration: Filing, Office Organizing, Etc.

  • Legal Support: General support, Environmental Regulations, CEQA, etc.

  • Tax Reporting Services, CPA

For more information, email miranda@sdcanyonlands.org

3.   Internships

If you are getting even more involved with our organization and volunteering with us on a routine basis, an internship may be a good fit for you. Interns form an integral part of our programs.  We offer internships where students gain applied work experience in:

  • Restoration Ecology

  • Volunteer Event Facilitation

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Mapping

  • Community Organizing

For more information, check out our careers page to see what internships we have available.
