connecting the community to the canyon

The gem of serra mesa

Ruffin Canyon is Serra Mesa’s natural open space. With more than 84 acres, it extends from the south end of Ruffin Road to Mission Valley. Its native plants provide an example of the Coastal Sage Scrub plant community. Ruffin Canyon offers primitive trails. Access is on the west and east sides of Taft Middle School. Check out this Serra Mesa Trails Resource Guide for more information.

This unique habitat needs our care. The Friends of Ruffin Canyon help restore this canyon be removing trash and invasive species, planting native plants, and educating the community on the importance of this natural habitat. The Friends of Ruffin Canyon also help restore nearby Library Canyon.
